Erma Bombeck wrote a book called, “If Life is a Bowl of Cherries, What am I Doing in the Pits?” The truth is there are pits in life. No matter how prosperous our lives may seem, we all go through troubled times. As I write this, over 50 people were shot in Las Vegas while attending a concert, multitudes are homeless due to our recent hurricanes Harvey in Texas, Irma in Florida and Maria in Puerto Rico. Most recently, 26 people were killed at a church in Sutherland Springs, TX. In 2011 we took diapers, baby food and formula to Joplin, MO after a devastating tornado killed over 159 people. Have you wondered, “Where is God when life is in the pits?”
Does God care and is He still there? David writes in the Psalms 43:5, “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
God does not abandon us. He does not turn His back on us when we call to Him. He is close to the broken-hearted and ready to set the captive free. His spirit is within us giving us the wisdom and courage to face any situation that comes into our lives. David tells his soul what to think. He tell his soul to hope in God. The book, “Suicide is not Your Answer” and “Wings of Inspiration” is filled with hope, encouragement and wisdom to face some of life’s most difficult situations. It is not about how strong or wise you are, but how powerful God is when His people call out to Him.
